The era of generative AI, which began in 2022, saw the full-fledged use of these technologies for content creation with the introduction of Multi Modal GPT-4 in 2023. Many companies are researching creative and efficient content production using generative AI technology, which is also influencing the webtoon industry. In webtoon production, the Text-to-Image and Image-to-Image functions of generative AI assist in production design and image generation. However, AI-generated works face limitations in creating consistent characters and achieving desired images, and the lack of Korean language support presents a challenge for domestic creators. To address this, our research aims to develop a Stable Diffusion model that supports Korean input and build an AI system specialized for webtoon production. Additionally, by applying moving effects to create immersive content and establishing an efficient AI-driven moving webtoon production pipeline, we aim to enhance the competitiveness of the webtoon industry.

AI-CFT Team 2 is a research group of students specializing in Animation Content and AI Imaging Engineering at the Graduate School of Advanced Imaging Science, Multimedia & Film at Chung-Ang University. The team has focused on developing a production pipeline for creating moving webtoons by integrating art and technology through generative AI. The team aimed to produce high-quality results that maintain the creator’s unique style while reducing production time. Additionally, they aimed to develop and implement AI systems specifically designed for webtoon production to overcome the technical limitations faced by domestic creators. By addressing the artistic and engineering challenges that generative AI has yet to resolve and complementing each field, the team sought to create outcomes that could contribute meaningfully to the industry.
