This study examines Choi Jeong-hyuns auteur theory as showcased in his animation works from the 1980s. In 2023, three of his works, [Bangchungmang](1983), [Sangheun](1984), and [Geunali Omyeon] (1987), were restored and made publicly available for the first time. This revealed the presence of independent animation creators in Korea during the 1980s. The research analyzes how Chois artistic philosophy, focused on the theme of [life] and the exploration of daily practice and aesthetics, was expressed through independent animation within the context of 1980s Korean history. It delves into the development of an auteur in the close relationship between history, art, and the individual.
