Abstract

The emergence of artificial intelligence and generative imaging tools offers tremendous new opportunities for art creation, but it also poses many problems in terms of ethical conduct.
Currently, many questions remain unresolved particularly how I can be used without infringing on the intellectual properties it is sourcing its data from.
Anybody who seeks to apply this exciting new technology should be aware of these potential issues and use AI in in a way that is simultaneously artistically innovative but also ethically responsible. My presentation well first introduce the bigger picture before exploring possible uses of AI through 2 concrete case-studies.
- In the research project “Pericles VR”, AI is used to animate an interactive character
in a fully immersive game, which is adapted from the classical Shakespeare play.
- In the other project we create an animated short film (3 min.) in Chinese painting style. It serves as the testbed for our newly developed AI production tools for automated non-photorealistic rendering (NPR).
In both cases, I will explain the principle technological process as well as the approaches taken towards ensuring the use of AI as an ethically responsible tool.
