STILL
WAN WENQI“There are still memories of him. / There is still life to grow. / There is still new hope.” / The context of this installation is rooted in my experience of my father suffering from leukemia when I was a child. Patients with cancer can become allergic to the sun and their body immunity may decline because of cell lesions and other reasons, so they often spend the last stages of their lives in a hospital ward. A ‘window’ becomes the only remaining channel to experience a sense of the outside world. Through the evolution of the pathological process of cancer cells, 'cancer patients' can feel daily life again and enjoy the final stage of life. This work aims to compensate for and cure the loss of life of 'cancer patients'. And that's how I wanted to bring my memories of my father to life.
Bachelor Degree:2017 - New Media Art Department of Sichuan Fine Arts Institute / Master's Degree: 2021: Department of Humanities and Arts, DJCAD College, University of Dundee / 2019-2021 : studying in the Experimental Art graduate school of Sichuan Fine Arts Institute / My project takes place in the context of exploring the relationship between art, disease, and human beings. I believe that disease and death are not the end of life but are closely related to environmental change and the evolution of life cycles. The pain often created by disease also makes us feel alive and re-confirms the vitality of life. I think the disease is not terrible, but we lack the courage and imagination to face it. Artistic creation of diseases can help patients' physical and emotional repair and attract more public attention and thinking.
