João Pedro Oliveira is a composer and holder of the Corwin Endowed Chair in Composition at the University of California, Santa Barbara. He studied organ performance, composition, and architecture in Lisbon and earned his Ph.D. in Music from the University of New York at Stony Brook. His work spans opera, orchestral and chamber music, electroacoustic composition, and experimental video. Recipient of over 70 international awards, including the 2023 Guggenheim Fellowship, the Bourges Magisterium Prize, and the Giga-Hertz Special Award, his music is performed worldwide. He previously taught at Aveiro University (Portugal) and the Federal University of Minas Gerais (Brazil), and has published numerous articles and a book on twentieth-century music theory.
